DADADADA…………EEEHHH!!

“Come on, it's ready on the table.
On purpose; Roberta called.
Good.
She told me that at the end of the month she will resume work.
Damn! And Peter? Have they already thought about who will take care of him?
The pediatrician advised her against nursery school until he will be at least two years old due to a very dangerous lung infection that is circulating among children.
He then he is up to us !?
Yup!
With these few sentences I have stoned all my projects.“

Photographing normality as moments of everyday life is not an easy task.  Anyway it is a challenge  growing in me over the years and that has taken shape with this project. Of course today parents are perhaps less present with their children than they have been for us. The methods and rhythms of work have changed, and maybe  there is a slightly less "heroic" and bold way of dealing with motherhood. Doubts and insecurities are accentuated. Today, the lifestyle itself makes it more difficult to dedicate your time to your child.

But thankfully there are grandparents! Being a grandparent is an engaging experience with controversial aspects. On the one hand it is a strenuous experience, both physically and mentally because it subjects you to the unexpected and to the limitation of the freedom that you  achieved when you retired. On the other, it is gratifying because it is full of joy and affection. An alliance between two adults and a child. An alliance that is proposed from generation to generation.

I therefore dug into my and my wife's memories, in those of our parents and grandparents to bring back the images and stories of this joy and fatigue that have been a glue in a constant flow of generations. Of this gift of one's life to the other. Because it is precisely the gift of life that we are dealing with.

My roots

Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries
Bring us farther from GOD and nearer to the Dust.
Choruses from «The Rock» Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888 − 1965)

In the dark Thomas Elliot's verses break down sharp, surgical, uncovering ephemeral cores of awareness: the immeasurable amount of information available without any filter of truthfulness, science uncritically conceived as "it can be done", the hegemony of the media and fashions, the virtual replacing the concrete, the increasingly dim perception of the Mystery that envelops our existence ... ... our inability to be Free. It is a thought, an allegorical story, made through images played on glances, gestures and portraits. Children precociously and virtually homologated, The exploding cry, barely repressed, of the desire for happiness that constitutes us. The uncertain future of a restless youth that shines through the eyes. The business, for which the individual is valid for his economic power. And finally discover and recognize the demon, often elegantly disguised, that is also in me.

But there is  a possibility of recovering my identity through the history. Through the sometimes restless glances of those who have lived for a long time, of those who testify to dignity despite the limits imposed by old age and illness. Rediscover serenity through a simple gesture made with love, in the wrinkles ……… ..of the history in which we have our roots.
